Nov. 1
On Monday it was so chilly outside I figure this would be a good opportunity to read books about the autumn season. Plus I introduce a new flannel board to the kids called Turkey Feathers. I'll use it again but in a different way when I do a food/thanksgiving themed storytime in two weeks. It went over very well with the kids.
The Busy Little Squirrel by Nancy Tafuri
Ten Red Apples: a Bartholomew Bear Counting Book by Virginia Miller (apples)
All for Pie, Pie for All by David Martin (food- apple and blueberry pie)
Who Loves the Fall by Bob Raczka
The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall
Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert
Fall Leaves Fall by Zoe Hall
A New House for Mouse by Pat Horacek (group favorite- apples)
Ska-tat! by Kimberly Knutson
Leaves by David Ezra Stein
Nursey Rhyme
Big Fat Hen, illustrated by Keith Baker ( used the hen/chicken puppet to say the rhyme-kids liked)
Flannel Board
Turkey Feathers (sounds like Frere Jacques)
Turkey, feathers, turkey feathers,
Bright and fun, bright and fun,
Who has a red one, who has a red one? (Hand each child different color feather)
Add it now, add it now. (Have child place the color on the bald turkey flannel)
(Repeat for other colors)
