Leaves

Oct. 11

Unfortunately I thought it was going to be a closing day on Oct. 11th. I had marked it on my calendar as "no work". Boy, was I wrong! I decided to read a couple of stories about the autumn season and changing of leaves. As an activity we did leaf rubbings. I figured this would be a fun, easy and cheap activity to do with the kids. It definitely was a crowd pleaser. It would be nice to have a camera on hand to take pictures of the activities. But it is a hassle to get the parents to sign a consent form to take pictures for public use. It would be nice to post the activities for future references. Maybe I'll crop the kids out the photo and focus on the activity. The leaf rubbing pictures the kids made turned out very nice.

Books...I didn't read all of them, maybe three of them because I wanted to leave room for the activity but he:

Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert
Fall Leaves Fall by Zoe Hall
Ska-tat! by Kimberly Knutson
Leaves by David Ezra Stein
Who loves the fall? by Bob Raczka

Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson
Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert

Activity
Leaf Rubbings

Take a leaf or leaves. Place it between two sheets of paper, with vein(s) side up. It imprints better. Then, gently rub a crayon or color pencil over the top sheet of paper. Watch the leaf image appear on the sheet.
