Sea Creatures

Tonight I had a small group which I like the best because it is easier to control and handle instead of a large group of kids under 5. We did fish and other sea creature stories. I think the kids liked the books. However I don't think they liked Eric Carle's Mister Seahorse very much because one of the kids asked me if the daddy seahorse was the money and why the daddy seahorse had the baby seahorses coming out his pouch. It was too much for me to explain. I just told them that I would leave that up to their parents to discuss later. The other books went very well.

For craft, I used the leftover sand from last week's treasure hunt and replaced the items with sea shells, starfish and shark teeth. I had the kids dig in the sand to find the items. They really enjoyed themselves. Next week is beach fun. I'm going to find some beach bowls and beach music to play and beach chairs. I will search frozen ice pops as a closing treat.

Books I picked out this week:
  • *Rub-a-Dub Sub by Linda Ashman (kids' favorite)
  • *Fish Wish by Bob Barner
  • *Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle (caution: they may asked why the daddy had the babies)

  • Swimmy by Leo Lionni
  • Sea Shapes by Sue MacDonald
  • Blue Sea by Robert Kalan
  • *I'm the Biggest thing in the Ocean byKevin Sherry
