Getting Started: Folk Tales Theme

I haven't blogged in a while so I might be a tad bit rusty. But I hope that I can keep this going so that it can help others to not stress over having to find something to read to a group of kids for 30 minutes once a week. I'll start by posting what I did last night for the evening storytime. The kids on Mondays are smart and good readers. These kids are really serious and really involved in the books. The parents can come off at being hard to impress but I think they enjoy the stories just as much as the children do. The age range for the kids on Mondays are from about 5 to 7.

Let's see the theme for last night was "Folk Tales". I had 3 girls: Janale, Brooklyn, and (the quiet one) I forgot her name but she's a sweetheart. Anyway they liked all the stories except for one, The Teeny-tiny Women. I don't know why, but they were not impressed nor scared. They didn't care for that one. On the other hand, the Fat Cat and Two Greedy Bears the girls enjoyed the most.
  • The Giant Jam Sandwich / John vernon Lord
  • The Teeny-Tiny Woman / Paul Galdone
  • Two Greedy Bears / Mirra Ginsburg
  • Fat Cat / Margaret Read MacDonald

Other suggested stories:

  • The Little Red Hen/ Paul Galdone
  • The Three Little Bears / Paul Galdone
  • Henny Penny / Paul Galdone
  • This is the House that Jack Built / Simms Taback
  • The Little Kittens / Paul Galdone
